La Glace to Wapiti Pipeline Expansion

Project Overview

Pembina Pipeline Corporation (Pembina) retained Tridyne Projects Corporation to provide engineering, procurement, and construction support for the installation of a new pipeline system and facility tie-ins as part of the Phase VI upgrades for the La Glace to Wapiti pipeline expansion program.

The new pipeline system includes a 56km NPS 16 pipeline which shares the southern two thirds of the route with a new 38 km NPS 12 pipeline in a common trench. A new midpoint station (Pipestone Lateral Tie-In) includes a pig trap, flare complete with knockout drum, and re-injection pumps for an NPS 8 and NPS 12 lateral pipeline tie-in. A similar NPS 6 lateral pig trap facility design was installed at the north Wapiti block valve station. Tridyne implemented an automated alignment sheet generator requiring fewer overall manhours while achieving improved quality.

The southern section of the route includes separate NPS 16 and NPS 12 horizontal directional drills (HDD) of the Wapiti River. The profile length of the drills is approximately 1,900m each and were completed using the intersect method. There were an additional 13 engineered crossings throughout the project that were completed by Tridyne’s trenchless design team.

Tridyne contracted the Geophysics, Wapiti HDD Design, Cathodic Protection Design, AC Mitigation Design, Outflow Analysis and Environmental Mud Management planning.
